For most living rooms, the best soundbar is a 3.1 or 5.1 system with a separate subwoofer, connected to your TV through HDMI ARC or eARC. A 3.1 setup fixes the biggest complaint about TV sound, unclear dialogue. A 5.1 adds the surround effect that makes films and cricket feel like you're there.
Modern TVs are so thin that there is little room left for speakers, which is why even a premium screen can sound flat. A soundbar fixes that without the clutter of a full speaker system, and good ones now start at under Rs 30,000.
What the channel numbers mean
| Setup | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0 | Left and right speakers in one bar | Small rooms and bedrooms |
| 2.1 | Stereo bar plus a subwoofer for bass | Music and everyday TV |
| 3.1 | Adds a centre channel for dialogue | News, dramas and anyone who keeps turning up the volume |
| 5.1 | Adds two rear speakers for surround sound | Films, sport and gaming |
| 7.1.4 | More surround channels plus four up-firing speakers for height | Large rooms and a true home-cinema feel |
The first number is the speaker channels, the ".1" is the subwoofer, and a third number counts the up-firing height speakers used for Dolby Atmos.
Five things to check before you buy
1. Dialogue clarity
If you mostly watch dramas, news and talk shows, a dedicated centre channel matters more than raw wattage. Every 3.1 and higher soundbar on this page has one.
2. Real or virtual Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos adds sound from above. Systems with up-firing speakers, such as the JBL Bar 1000 range, produce real height effects. Many compact bars use virtual Atmos, which processes the sound to suggest height without extra speakers. Both work; real Atmos is more convincing in a room with a flat ceiling.
3. How it connects to your TV
- HDMI eARC or ARC is the best option: one cable, and your TV remote controls the volume. eARC carries full Dolby Atmos.
- Optical works with almost any TV but doesn't carry the highest-quality Atmos formats.
- Bluetooth is handy for playing music from your phone, but it isn't ideal as the main TV connection because of possible lip-sync delay.
Check which port your TV has before you buy. HDMI ARC or eARC is one of the specs worth comparing when choosing an LED TV, especially if you plan to add a soundbar later.
4. Room size and placement
A 2.0 or 2.1 bar fills a bedroom easily. A lounge of 16 by 20 feet or more benefits from 5.1 with rear speakers. Wireless subwoofers can sit anywhere near a socket; wired ones need a cable run to the bar.
5. Matching the TV width
A soundbar looks best when it is about as wide as the TV or slightly narrower. Compact bars of around 80 cm suit 43 to 55 inch TVs. Full-size bars suit 55 inch screens and larger.

Our picks
Best under Rs 30,000: TCL S45H
The TCL S45H is the easiest upgrade over built-in TV speakers. It's an all-in-one bar with dual bass drivers built in, so there's no subwoofer to find room for, and it supports Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X. At about 81 cm wide, it suits 43 to 55 inch TVs and bedrooms.
Best for clear dialogue: JBL Cinema SB550
If you keep reaching for the remote to catch what actors are saying, the JBL Cinema SB550 solves it with a dedicated centre channel. Its wireless subwoofer adds weight to music and films, and HDMI ARC means your TV remote controls everything.
Best value surround sound: Sony HT-S20R
The Sony HT-S20R is a true 5.1 system with real rear speakers and a 400W output for under Rs 70,000. It's the cheapest way to get sound coming from behind you, which transforms films and cricket. Note that its rear speakers and subwoofer are wired.
Best Dolby Atmos under Rs 100,000: TCL Q65H
The TCL Q65H pairs 5.1 channels with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and a wireless subwoofer. It's a strong match for a TCL LED TV, though it works with any TV that has HDMI ARC.
Best overall: JBL Bar 500MK2
For a large lounge, the JBL Bar 500MK2 gives 750W, a 10-inch wireless subwoofer, Dolby Atmos and JBL's PureVoice dialogue tuning. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 make it a capable music system too.
Best home cinema: JBL Bar 1000MK2
The JBL Bar 1000MK2 is as close to a cinema as a soundbar gets. Its 7.1.4 layout includes up-firing speakers for real Atmos height, and its surround speakers detach from the bar so you can place them behind the sofa for films, then clip them back on. The JBL Bar 800MK2 offers the same detachable design without the height channels for less.
Best for LG TV owners: LG S40T-M
The LG S40T-M is a 2.1 system with AI Sound Pro, which adjusts the sound to what you're watching. On compatible LG TVs, its WOW Interface lets you control it from the TV menu.
Setting up your soundbar
- Use HDMI ARC or eARC if your TV has it, and turn on HDMI-CEC (often called Anynet+, Simplink or Bravia Sync) in the TV settings so one remote controls both.
- Set the TV's audio output to the external speaker or HDMI ARC, and turn off the TV's own speakers.
- Place the bar directly below the screen, not inside a closed cabinet, which muffles sound.
- Put the subwoofer on the floor, near a wall or corner for stronger bass.
- Use the night or voice mode for late-night viewing so dialogue stays clear at low volume.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best soundbar in Pakistan?
For most homes, the JBL Cinema SB550 for clear dialogue or the Sony HT-S20R for surround sound. For a premium lounge, the JBL Bar 500MK2.
Is a soundbar better than TV speakers?
Yes. Even a compact 2.0 soundbar has larger drivers and more room for sound than the thin speakers inside a modern TV.
Do I need Dolby Atmos?
Only if you watch a lot of films or streaming content mixed in Atmos. For TV dramas, news and cricket, a good 3.1 or 5.1 system makes the bigger difference.
Can I connect a soundbar to any TV?
Almost any TV with HDMI ARC, optical output or Bluetooth. HDMI ARC or eARC gives the best sound and lets one remote control both.
What is the soundbar price in Pakistan?
At our store, soundbars range from Rs 29,000 for the TCL S45H to Rs 329,900 for the JBL Bar 1000MK2, as of October 2026.
Buying a TV and soundbar together
If you're buying both at once, size them as a pair: the bar should be about as wide as the screen, and the TV needs HDMI ARC or eARC for one-cable, one-remote control. Most smart LED TVs have at least HDMI ARC. Settle on the smart platform at the same time, since Google TV and Android TV differ in apps and menus you'll use every day.
